Vocational head teacher as the main force of vocational teachers plays a very important role in students ideological and moral education. Along with the increasing emphasis on vocational education, the country sets off a wave of vigorously developing vocational education so the community has a higher expectation of it.Developing both high-skilled, high-level and high professional moral standards of vocational students has became the expectations and requirements of the school and the parents of the vocational education. This not only has brought new challenges to head teacher, but also has higher requirements for the quality and ability of the vocational teachers.This paper is divided into five parts.it begins with the survey of current situation in vocational head teachers and analyzes the key and difficulty points in their work.According to analysis of work assignments, it puts the requirements and summarizes the ability of the head teacher in the new situation. finally it puts forward some suggestions to foster their capability.The first part describes the background, the main problem, significance of research and literature review study.The second part makes a a corresponding definition of key concepts among the "head teacher" "vocational head teacher" "analysis of work assignments" "ability". It explains the three basic theories of this research:Teacher's growth theory, teacher's professional theory, curriculum development theory, and the research program of this research.The third part is the key part. It distributes, and analyzes a questionnaire to 18 vocational schools' teacher in municipality of Hunan Province and the head teachers' basic information, work situation, the key and difficulty points of the work in vocational schools are analyzed, too.The fourth part analyzes the ability of the head teachers. Through the analysis of the head teachers' professional activities and the deconstruction of ability demands then it summarizes three types of head teachers abilities:core competence, operational capability, ability level and 14 kinds of specific capabilities. According to all of it, analysis table of the vocational school teachers' ability is made as follows.The last part is some suggestions of how to cultivate the vocational head teachers' ability. According to the study, this paper puts forward the policies and documents of training the vocational head teachers and also works out some suggestions Just as:making the professional standards of the head teacher in vocational schools, reforming the system of the teachers title evaluation, developing technical teachers in charge of curriculum and teaching materials, strengthening the vocational teachers' training and so on.
