English is a humanism and instrumental subject, the general objective of English teaching in compulsory education stage is to make students form an initiatory ability of comprehensive language using, to develop their mind and to improve their comprehensive humanistic quality. A new round reform of English college entrance examination system focuses more on cultivating students'ability of using language to solve practical problems. So we should emphasis more on training listening and speaking ability and pay more attention to improve the students'communicative competence and comprehensive humanistic quality in the implement of the new curriculum. This asks higher requirements for current English teaching and how to achieve these objectives is one of the urgent problems in English teaching. Assignment design is an indispensable part in English teaching and teaching design and how to reflect English's humanity and instrumentality in assignment design, is an important research subject. So I try to do a research about English assignment design for primary school students.The thesis is based on reserach of students and teachers of two primary school in Jiujiang. Many research methods are used in the thesis, such as questionnaire method, data studies method and observational method. By investigating and analyzing the current situation about primary English assignment, the author concludes the existing problems of English assignment design according to the information from investigated data and put forword some advice. The aim of the thesis is to provide experience and refrence for primary school teachers when designing assignment.
