| The sport of track and field represents a country’s comprehensive strength of the sports, however in China it is one of the relatively weak events in competitive sports events, therefore improving the performance of track and field has become one of the long-term goals in China. For Chinese athletes who are facing increasing pressure from international competition, it is urging to investigate and improve coaches’ teaching ability. In the development of track and field, this pressing problem needs to be solved urgently.This study investigated the coaching ability of coaches in track and field and the evaluation index system and constructed an evaluation index system of coaches in track and field through literature reviews, expert interviews, questionnaires, Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP), mathematical statistics, empirical analysis. It hopes to bring innovation to theory and practice so as to provide guidance for departments in making policies, objectively evaluating the coaches in track and field, selecting professional coaches as well as to make the training of track and field more scientific and more competitive. Conclusions of this study are as follows:In China, an outstanding coach’s coaching ability is defined as: a coach in track and field possesses the abilities of different social roles. It not only includes specific ability in training of track of field but also includes abilities of participating in competitions, selecting athletes, daily management, interpersonal communication, instructing athletes and the like.This evaluation index system includes three levels of 35 indicators, including 6 second-level indicators such as personal experience, teaching ability, ability of instructing competitions, management ability, research ability and interpersonal skills and 28 third-level indicators. The second-level indicators ranked as: teaching ability, ability of instructing competition, management ability, personal experience, research ability and interpersonal skills. In all of the third-level indicators, the ability to reserve talents, solve problems and ability to control their emotions are of low scores.This study also conducted an empirical study to investigate coaching ability of a coach in a university of Wuhan through Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation(FCE), which proved the validity and reliability of this evaluation index system. |
