The Application Of Group Work In The Safety Education Of Pupils

Primary school stage is a critical period of child development. They are curious. Meanwhile, they lack social experience, good self-control and a sense of independence. On account of these body and mind characters, children are prone to danger. In recent years, the state has been strongly advocated the safety education of primary and middle school students. As a kind of professional service, social work can apply scientific theory and methods to make the practice.During the internship in the community, the author found that most parents are too busy to take care of their children. So many pupils are more likely to get into danger after school. In order to assist pupils in establishing safe consciousness, learning related safety information and enhancing security capacity, the author made a decision to carry out group work which is safety education themed. This group work involved in realizing the important personal information, doing basic first aid, handling unexpected situations, learning knowledge and skills in regard to home safety, traffic safety. The paper provided a detailed description of the process, the process evaluation and the outcome evaluation. After analysis, the author found that the group work performed certain superiority in assisting group members to learn related safety information. But over time, its effect was beginning to fade. Besides that, the group work did not show significant effect to assist group members to raise the safety awareness.Through the review and summary of the group work, it is found that group work is an effective way to educate pupils in safety. There is an ongoing process to promote pupils’ safety education. It requires the attention and participation of the family, the community and society. By the end of this article, in order to gain experience for the following practice, the author pointed out deficiencies of the design and the evaluation of the group work.
