Innovative talent is the key to the national core competitiveness in today’s world. Although the United States ranked the first on the integrated innovation capability, it still in time of peace prepare for war and put forward to improve the citizens’ innovation and practice ability with STEM education strategy. Since reforming and opening, China has opened up a rapid speed of economic development. While, China faced with a huge gap in creative talents needs to draw lessons from STEM education to enhance citizens’ quality. To stimulate and cultivate students STEM learning interest, as the respond to the new curriculum reform call for strengthening students’ learning interest, will greatly improve the students’ STEM learning enthusiasm and confidence. It is of profound significance to our country’s science education, especially the implementation of the STEM education and our citizens’ STEM literacy.The research mainly uses the method of literature and questionnaire investigation. In two domestic universities, STEM interest investigation and STEM literacy assessment have been put into face. Aims to address the following questions:(1) How’s the students’ interests in STEM learning? (2) What the experience and the character of the early STEM interest of college students are? (3)Which factors are influencing the college students’ STEM learning interests and literacy in our country? (4)What’s the students STEM career interest in China?The results show that Chinese college students’ learning interest is well. Most students take engineers or designers as their professional ideal. Early experience in school and their family is one of the important experiences which triggered college students’ STEM learning interest. Teachers and parents are the most Influential characters who stimulate the students’ STEM learning interest. Primary and secondary school is the critical period to cultivate the students’ interest in STEM. In the process of adhering to the interests of STEM, the teacher’s influence gradually increases and the influence of parents gradually weakens. In spite of this, the timely communication and support of teachers and parents have significant impact on the students’ interest and literacy in STEM. Based on the above conclusions, the author put forward some related suggestions on school education and family education, thus to improve our citizens’ STEM literacy and promote the STEM education in our country.
