Application Of Comprehensive Input Approach In Junior High School’s English Reading Teaching

Reading is regarded as one of the four basic skills of English,and reading teaching occupies a very important position in junior high school’s English teaching.However,at present English reading teaching in junior high school is facing many problems.Some traditional teaching methods of reading only focus on the learning of grammar and vocabulary,but neglect of the key role of comprehensible input in teaching practice,especially the positive effect of cultural background input on students’ understanding of the reading materials.Therefore,the teaching effect of English Reading under the guidance of the traditional teaching method is not satisfactory.Based on the studying of Krashen’s Input Theory and its related theories,the author summarized a new method in teaching practice of junior English reading teaching,that is,the comprehensive input approach.This approach divided the input into three types:the language input,the cultural input and the affective input.During the teaching procedure,according to a certain teaching contents,an appropriate type of input is adopted,so as to raise the learners’ interests of English reading,deepen their understanding of the teaching materials,and then improve their ability of English reading.This thesis based on Krashen’s Input Theory,uses the experimental method and combines quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis,employs questionnaire investigation,pre-test paper,post-test paper and face-to-face interview as research tools and takes 100 grade two students from No.80 junior high school of Dalian as research subjects,in order to study the feasibility of applying the comprehensive input approach to junior high school’s English reading teaching.It is designed to answer the following three research questions:1)Can the comprehensive input approach based on Krashen’s Input Theory raise the learners’ interests of English reading?2)Can the comprehensive input approach help learners improve their abilities of English reading?3)How to apply the comprehensive input approach to junior English reading teaching?The experiment results clearly prove that the comprehensive input approach based on Krashen’s Input Theory can help to raise the learners,interests of English reading as well as improve their English reading abilities.Therefore,applying Krashen’s Input Theory to junior high school’s English reading teaching is feasible.It is hoped that the results of this research can provide some enlightenment for the further studies of junior English reading teaching in the future.
