Vocabulary is the foundation of language learning.In the traditional English classroom,teachers use the “teacher centered” and “duck feeding” teaching method.This traditional teaching method ignores cultivating students' interests of learning vocabulary and decreases their efficiency of learning in the classroom.As foreign language learners,students lack the English learning environment during the process of learning vocabulary.Thus,it is essential for teachers to create situations for students' vocabulary learning,which would improve students' quality of learning vocabulary in English class.The thesis mainly focuses on the research of vocabulary teaching in the primary school,and finds the method to apply the Situational Teaching Method to the English vocabulary teaching in primary school.During the process of study,the thesis tries to study the following questions:1)In what ways can the application of the Situational Teaching Method in vocabulary teaching have influence on students' English vocabulary learning?2)How does the application of the Situational Teaching Method in vocabulary teaching improve teachers' effectiveness of teaching vocabulary?3)Whether the Situational Teaching Method can be used in vocabulary teaching in primary school.To study the application of the Situational Teaching Method in the vocabulary teaching in primary school,two classes in Dalian Jin Quan Primary School were chosen to take part in the experiment.Class One is the control class which has 40 students,and Class Two is the experimental class which has 42 students.In the experiment,the Situation Teaching Method is applied in the experimental class,and the traditional teaching method is applied in the control class.By the way of questionnaires,tests and interviews,the results of the experiment are analyzed.The result of the experiment shows that the Situational Teaching Method could arouse students' enthusiasm of learning vocabulary,and improve students' quality of learning vocabulary.Meanwhile,the application of the Situational Teaching Method in vocabulary teaching could enlarge their vocabulary.In conclusion,the Situational Teaching Method could be used in the vocabulary teaching in the primary school.According to the study,the author points out the limitations of the research.Firstly,the time of research is not enough.Then,the students in poor level didn't take part in the classroom activities.In the end,the author provides some suggestions for future research.For example,more subjects should participate in the experiment.Teachers should pay attention to the students in different levels,and make sure the accuracy of the experiment.
