| English vocabulary is not only the foundation of English but also plays an important part in English learning.However,due to the limited time in class and the exam-oriental teaching attitude,teachers always assign students the task of reciting new words without proper instruction.Nowadays,vocabulary memorization has been the main obstacle for students because there is a large quantity of complicated vocabulary,leading to the unsatisfactory condition of the English vocabulary teaching in Junior High School.Besides,students regard learning vocabulary as a difficult task because the vocabulary is easily forgotten after being learned for a short time.Thus this study proposes that teachers use mind map in English vocabulary class in Junior High School.Mind map is a visual tool for knowledge representing and an expression of radiant thinking.It is also a very useful thinking tool which increases memory effect by the means of color,picture,code and multidimensions,etc.What’s more,mind map is helpful for organizing thoughts and information,and connecting new information and old information,which is necessary in the process of memorializing and applying vocabulary.Therefore,this research is to apply mind map to the teaching of English vocabulary,aiming to improve the current situation of English vocabulary teaching in Junior High School and help students deal with the vocabulary,thus improving the efficiency of English vocabulary teaching.This research selected 81 students from two parallel classes of Grade 8 in the Affiliated Middle School of Henan Normal University as the research subjects,and uses the research methods of experiment,questionnaires,and case studies.The research questions are:(1)What is the current situation of English vocabulary teaching in Junior High School?(2)What is the effect of applying Mind Map to English vocabulary teaching on students’ vocabulary memorization in Junior High School?(3)What is the influence of applying Mind Map to the English vocabulary teaching on arousing students’ English learning interest? By applying mind map to English vocabulary teaching,the author has summarized four methods of drawing English vocabulary maps.The research started from the early of September in 2015 to the end of January in 2016,lasting for the whole semester.The one-term teaching practice and results of data show that: mind map can help students with the memorization of vocabulary;mind map can arouse students’ interests in learning English.In summary,the research provides an efficient learning strategy for students to learn vocabulary and develops students’ thinking ability and creative sense,thus exploring a good way to improve the efficiency of English vocabulary teaching.On the other hand,the research has implication on the application of mind map to the other teaching fields. |
