National literacy is the key to the prosperity and sustainable development of a country and a nation, and the geographic literacy is a part of the national literacy.Therefore, it plays the significance in cultivating students' geography ability, the development of learning geography and solve geographic problems even the development of the nation and small individuals, With the development of economy and technology, China's population, resources, environmental issues have become increasingly prominent, more and more people find that geography ability pays irreplaceable role in solving these problems. However, due to the long-term constraints of the examination oriented education in our country, the cultivation of high school students' geography ability has not been paid enough attention in the implementation of geography teaching.The development of the current situation is worrying and it needs to be improved. Then the new geography curriculum reform of the Ministry of education is more concerned about the cultivation of the geographical discipline ability as the core of geography, and the general trend of the reform of the college entrance examination is to pay more attention to the ability of geography.On high school geography teaching, let the future citizens accept a high level of basic geographic education and improve the future citizens of geography subject ability is the core of the geographic literacy of high school students. It is imminent to train high quality cultivation of high school students of geography subject ability.Therefore, this study specialized in high school students of geography subject ability as the theme, based on geographical science theory, education theory and the theory of psychology related theory, using the method of literature research, questionnaire survey method, interview method, statistical analysis etc. method and taking Henan University attached secondary school(high school Department) in Kaifeng City,and Lankao County third senior high school as an example to investigate and analyze the status quo of geography subject ability of senior high school students.According to study, we get the following results: Overall, high school students' geography subject ability is lacking and the special geography subject ability relative slightly higher than the general geography subject ability. But in terms of geography practical ability, they are relatively deficient. From the different attitude,teachers, students, and parents 'Geographical Science degree of attention is not high on the whole ability, therefore, the high school geography subject ability is not high; The student who pay more attention to the geography have the high geographical scientific ability than those who pay less importance; in the teaching process, senior high school teachers don't pay enough importance on the students' geography subject ability, and there is no truly comprehensive attention to the cultivation of students ability in geography; Most students whose parents are very concerned about the child's geography have a higher geography subject ability. From a different school levels, Senior high school students ‘geography subject ability of urban key middle school affiliated to the Henan University is overall higher than that of Lankao three rural senior high school students.From the aspect of science and science, the different ability of geography is remarkable. Literature students is higher than science students in the overall geography subject ability, especially in terms of geography subject ability; and with the grade increasing,the literature students in senior high school geography ability level is increasing, while science students is the opposite.From different gender, male and female students of geography subject ability in general has no big difference. But on the structure of geography subject ability, they are different. Each has its own advantages in the field : Women is stronger than boys in geography ability, the geography information collection, description of geographical process and simple prediction ability, spatial distribution pattern perception ability, verbal expression and so on; while boys is better than girls in geographic information analysis ability, space positioning capability, the regional difference comparison and analysis ability,the geography characteristics of comprehensive analysis ability, geographical causality analysis and reasoning ability; besides, boys have advantages in hands making and operation ability. Based on the analysis of the status quo, according to the high school students' physiological and psychological development characteristics, high school geography subject characteristics, curriculum goals and teaching rules, focusing on from the angle of geography teaching, the geography subject of geography ability, information processing ability, practical ability and general ability and spatial orientation ability, the regional difference comparison and analysis of the special ability, the geography characteristics of comprehensive analysis ability, the geography spatial pattern distribution of detection ability, geographical process description and simple prediction ability, the causal relationship of the analysis and reasoning ability geography can force, combining with the teaching practice, the emphasis put forward some teaching and training strategies.
