People who have the ability to learn can adapt to the requirements of the social development, and this kind of learning must be motivated by the learner of their own needs to activate an initiative study. The ability of self-learning is particularly important, therefore, to cultivate students’ self-learning ability is supposed to be one of the first tasks of school education. Preview is actually an attempt of independently-study, such as understanding the content correctly, learning to seize the crux and difficulties, and grasping the implicit way of thinking, etc. And it turns out that these learning abilities can be checked, strengthened or rectified during the lessons. Effective preparation is beneficial to improve the ability of self-learning, helping students form the good learning habits of self-learning and exploring. For the learning of junior mathematics in middle schools, the intense conflict between the students’exisiting concrete thinking structure and the newly emergence thinking of abstract knowledge structure will make students feel inadequate. At this time, the teacher’s prominent task is to help students to adjust their thinking model and change the method of study. So in the first phase, it is especially important to develop the students’habit of previewing and self-learning ability in the junior mathematic classes. However, the concrete implementation of the seventh-grade students’preview before mathematic classes ending up with an unsatisfied result. This study tends to investigate and research the current situation of the junior students’preview before mathematic classes. This study investigated the present situation about students’preview before mathematics classes by the means of literature research, questionnaires and interviewing some teachers and students, and used spss software to analyses the data. The conclusions are as following:(1) Only 71% of the students in the school preview before class occasionally, and 12% of the students never do that; (2) The wrong way of preview before class leads 65% of the students to consider the preparation as a burden of study; (3) Students’ habits of mathematics preparation obviously relate to the teachers’ inspection, encouragements and guidance; (4) Students’ habits of mathematics preparation affect their study effect, and they have significant correlation with each other. Finally, the advice of cultivating students for effective mathematical pre-course reading will be presented. Suggestions are as following:(1) to improve the students’ understanding of preview; (2) to cultivate students’ pre-course reading habit; (3) to guide students how to do preparation before math class; (4) to implement the inspection of pre-course reading; (5) to diversify the form of preview before math class; (6) to arrange the mathematical preparation assignments reasonably; (7) to guide the students to improve the preview mode; (8) to change the teaching methods.
