The English textbook is an important part of the implementation of English curriculum. Selecting and using appropriate teaching materials is the premise to realize the teaching goal. With the opening of the textbook market, a wide range of English materials has emerged. Therefore, it will be of great significance to evaluate and select the right textbook.Based on Go for it(2003 edition), the new textbook named Go for it(2012 edition) is adapted according to The English Curriculum Standard(2011 edition). Since September in 2012, it has been put into use. The teachers and students of Grade 9 in Qingdao have finished the whole set of Go for it(2012 edition) by June of 2015. Does the new material meet the requirements of both the curriculum standard and the users? Are there any suggestions to teachers and editors? To solve the above problems, the thesis will evaluate Go for it(2012 edition) from two perspectives: the static and the dynamic. First, analyze the teaching materials according to the curriculum standard. Second, questionnaires and interviews are used to collect data from some teachers and students of Grade 9 in four junior middle schools in Qingdao(including both urban and rural schools). The study finds that Go for it(2012 edition) embodies the basic idea of English curriculum standard. It helps learners to develop the overall language ability during the process of study and meets the requirements of the curriculum standard. The teachers and students generally are satisfied with the textbook. But during the application, there are still some disadvantages. The pronunciation activities are not enough. The form of listening activities is single. The vocabulary is too large. Some activities cannot meet the need of students and the supporting materials need to be improved. The author puts forward some suggestions at the end of the paper. First, teachers should study the curriculum standard and make full use of the teacher’s book. Second, teachers should use the teaching material in a flexible way. Third, the editors should continue to perfect the textbook, add pronunciation practice and pay attention to the vocabulary control. Last but not the least, the editors should improve the supporting teaching materials.
