In classes, teachers use verbal language to teach as well as gestures, movements, expression and so on,which we call body language. As an auxiliary means of verbal language, body language helps to get the messages across to students and improve teaching achievements, which greatly makes up the insufficient of verbal language. Therefore, it is meaningful to study the use of body language in teaching. In theory, it can propel the study of teaching behavior, enrich the art of teaching language, update the concept of education, attracting more attention to the art of body language. In practice, body language can promote teacher's fundamental skills, improve the teaching effect and cultivate students' aesthetic judgment. Body language is the outer manifestation of energy and the power of lives. Body language, with primitiveness, intuition, situationality, timeliness and contemporaneity, is a kind of special and com plicated language system that delivers information and expresses feelings with its changes. As to middle school teaching, body language has three functions such as cognitive function, emotional function and aesthetic function. According to the survey, body language has made great achievements in teaching in the following five aspects. First, as for visual language, it can inspire students' potential, promote the relationship between teachers and students and maintain the efficiency of class. Second, as for facial expression, using facial expression when you evaluate students can make you and your students close and make the atmosphere relaxing. Third, auditory language can show your respect to students and replace part of class language. Fourth, elegant gesture language can promote the image of teachers and draw students' attention. At last, decoration language can help to establish teachers' prestige and image and create intangible value in the process of teaching. However, there are also bad sides in body language such as sitting at random, behaving frivolously, shrugging casually, walking unnaturally, as well as null eye contact and stone face. Therefore, I would like to suggest that we should enrich the body language, follow the nature of body language and show the beauty of body language.
