Student evaluation of teaching has been an important system for evaluating teachers'performance.It has been 30 years already since the system of student evaluation of teaching came to universities and colleges in mainland China.It became a regular system which existed for evaluating teachers' teaching performance.Universities and colleges in Taiwan affected much by the system of student evaluation of teaching in USA.Compared with the system in mainland China,the student evaluation of teaching in Taiwan developed much more perfect.The research is comparing the system of student evaluation of teaching in mainland China and Taiwan which focus on analysing the defects and strategies to remedy them in the process of development.In this way,it can provide guidance for the development of student evaluation of teaching system in mainland China and promoting the practice.This research applies for the observation method,interview method and comparative study method.It contains the history of student evaluation of teaching system the content of evaluation,the implementing agencies of evaluation and the use for the evaluation system.In the process of student evaluation of teaching system's development,some defects came out:There are some differences in the cognition of this system between teachers and students;There are some improper use when comes to the student evaluation of teaching;This system has developed with doubts about the credibility.The universities and colleges in Taiwan remedied the defects by giving much advance publicity,using the results properly and scientifically and improve the credibility of student evaluation of teaching.Through the comparative study,several problems have been existed in the universities and colleges in mainland China:Firstly,the understanding of student evaluation of teaching system is unclear;Secondly,the design of student evaluation of teaching index is unscientific;Thirdly,Lack of corresponding systems which can support the student evaluation of teaching system;Fourthly,the improper use of student evaluation of teaching's results.There are some similarities in the process of student evaluation of teaching system's development between universities and colleges in Taiwan and mainland China when confronted the problems and dilemma in student evaluation of teaching.Sum up the experiences in remedying the defects in universities and colleges in Taiwan and combine it with the actual situation of student evaluation of teaching in mainland China.It considered to be improved from the following aspects:Firstly,giving much advance publicity and strengthen the conscious of participation;Secondly,the management of teaching should change their outdated way of thinking and devote to reposition themselves;Thirdly,designing the student evaluation of teaching index in scientific way;Fourthly,through the perfect construction to fulfill the pluralism and participating in mechanism way;Fifthly,using the student evaluation of teaching's results in a proper way.
