Based on the group working methods, this paper takes the L community in Gulou District of Nanjing as an example to understand the basic needs of the aged and the current situation of home-based care services through a questionnaire survey.Although there is a agency of home-based care services and a neighborhood center in the L community, services what they provide is biased towards material life. Taking into the status of home-based care services, the following three points to fully explain that the group work has a larger space for development in the home-based care services: firstly, home-based care services emphasis on material services, but there are a lot of problems with it, such as emphasizing on material services,ignoring spiritual services, discontinued service funds and low utilization of community resources;secondly, the group work is professional and can make effective use of resource;finally, the state prioritize home-based care services and social work.Taking into the analysis of the situation,the author carried out five social recreational activities which is named of "the aged also have to play" in the community. There are some reflections drawn from the activities. In the area of service, the physical and mental health of the elderly affects the group process, so the clients are different from the needs of the group. In the professional capacity,self-literacy and professional ability are still inadequate as a social worker. As for staff, good assistants and effective supervisors are conductive to the success of group.In the community, community resources is waste, requirements of the group and the community is different.In order to effectively promote the work group involved in home care services,this paper makes the following suggestions. Evaluating needs from multiple perspectives, effectively using group work methods and techniques, giving full play to the team, using community resources and getting support of community. Those methods can improve the level of home care services and give the aged a happy old life.
