The United States is a country with more than 100 ethnic groups and ethnic immigrants. The founding of the nation and the development of foreign immigrants are closely related.Since the founding of the United States, government has been exploring suitable national immigration policy. For the considering of the development of national construction needs,U.S.government has on the whole maintained positive attitude toward foreign immigrants. In 1882 Congress enacted the Chinese Exclusion Act,which marks the end of the free immigration policy of the United States and the beginning of restrictive immigration policies. In the 1920 s,illegal immigrants began to appear after the establishment of immigration quota system. With the evolving of of restrictive immigration policy in the United States, the problem of illegal immigration has been developing.Until the 1980 s,the problem of illegal immigration has become increasingly prominent.Although illegal immigrants in the United States have made great contributions to the development of U.S.economy,they brought a lot of negative impacts on U.S.society.Considering the national interests of the United States, federal government successively carried out two specific laws, namely the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act and the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act to curb illegal immigration. But illegal immigration is still repeatedly pouring into the U.S..The largest proportion of illegal immigrants is from Mexico.Since illegal immigration has been a social problem troubling the United States, which is worthy of in-depth studying as a research topic.Firstly, this thesis pays close attention to analyzing the concept of illegal immigrants in the United States, and reviews the evolution process of the Mexican illegal immigrants immigrating to U.S..Secondly,Chapter two analyzes the relationship between Mexican illegal immigrants with American “Pull” factors.Among American “Pull” factors, the U.S.labor market attraction is the most fundamental reason. In addition,a series of restrictive immigration policies implemented by American government since 1965,loopholes in the U.S.-Mexico border enforcement imperfection and inappropriate interior enforcement have been the "pull" factors which attracts Mexican illegal immigrants.Chapter three discusses the “push” factors in Mexico. While unhealthy economic condition of Mexico, positive immigration policy and NAFTA’s inactive attitude towards labor flow have been the "push" elements which motivate Mexican residents immigrate to U.S.Thefourth chapter discusses the social catalytic factors of illegal immigrants. In addition to the above reasons,Mexican illegal immigration to the U.S.wasn’t held back effectively because of some social reasons, namely, migration networks and international crime organization.Due to the impact of American’s pull power,Mexico’s driving force and social factors,Mexico illegal immigrants may only be temporarily suppressed. To solve the problem of illegal immigrants in Mexico, the United States and Mexico should make joint efforts.Meanwhile we must realize that eliminating illegal immigration is a long way to go,which can’t be resolved in a short term.
