The Negotiation Between The United Statesmexico On Illegal Immigration (1972-1976) | Posted on:2021-11-19 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | Country:China | Candidate:Y Y Li | Full Text:PDF | GTID:2556306194472394 | Subject:World History | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | From 1972 to 1976,the United States and Mexico actively engaged in bilateral dialogue to deal with the problem of illegal immigration from Mexico to the United States.The two countries put this sensitive issue,which hindered bilateral relations,on the agenda of bilateral negotiations and tried to find the best solution to the problem of illegal immigration from Mexico.This paper discusses the negotiation process between the United States and Mexico on illegal immigration from 1972 to1976,showing the different positions of the two governments on illegal immigration and the twists and turns of the negotiation process.The text consists of the following four parts.The first part mainly sorts out the historical background of the outbreak of illegal Mexican immigrants flood from 1970 s till now.In the late 1960 s,the ebb tide of the“Mexican Miracle”,the end of the Bracero Program,the implementation of the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act,etc.,were important factors that led to the mass entry of illegal immigrants from Mexico into the United States in the early 1970 s.The second part mainly discusses the negotiations between the United States and Mexico on the control of immigration quota and inflow motivation in order to control the flow of illegal immigrants from Mexico to the United States.Mainly related to the new Bracero Program and the Rodino Bill.The third part mainly tells about the American and Mexican governments on the management of illegal immigrants.It mainly involves such issues as the Inter-Agency Committee on Illegal Mexican Migration and the humanitarian treatment of illegal immigrants.The fourth part is the conclusion of this paper.The author thinks that the negotiation between the United States and Mexico about illegal immigration from1972 to 1976 was the first high-level negotiation at the beginning of the recent illegal Mexican immigrants flood.The negotiations at this stage set up a platform for dialogue and achieved certain results,but on the whole,both countries only started from their own national interests,and the negotiations failed in the end.The negotiation between the United States and Mexico on illegal immigration is not only a typical case of illegal immigration governance,but also a typical case of the game between small countries and big countries.In examining the reasons for the failure of the negotiations,the fundamental reason is the huge economic differences between the two countries,and the important reason is the pragmatism and self-interest of both governments. | Keywords/Search Tags: | The United States, Mexico, Illegal Immigration, Negotiations, The National Games | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
