The Study On Living Status Of Migrant Sanitation Workers In Urban Areas

In recent years, with the rapid accelerating of urbanization process, a large number of rural surplus labor force began to gradually shift from rural area to cities. However, due to their own comprehensive quality is relatively poor, coupled with the long-term existence of the urban and rural dual system. Therefore, the migrant workers in cities mostly do some heavy work with low pay which city dweller is not willing to do. They are usually in a disadvantage position on the allocation of social resources. Their income is low and quality of life is poor. The degree of participation and integration of them in the city’s political, cultural and social life has been in a state of weakness. Thus, they become one of the major marginal groups in the city. According to incomplete investigation statistics, there are more than one million sanitation workers in our country at present, of which the amount of migrant workers accounted for more than 89.3%. Most of the migrant sanitation workers are temporary workers. Their cultural level is generally low and age is elder. Their work has great labor intensity, long hours and low wages, coupled with the lack of social support, making the living status of the city migrant sanitation workers is more negative.This thesis take the migrant sanitation workers in J city as the research object, and mainly adopt the way of questionnaire and unstructured interview to collect related data and information, using SPSS17.0 software to analyze and collate the collected data. Collate the text data of case interview object into verbatim transcription, then coding and summarizing. This thesis summarizes the main problems and difficulties which the migrant sanitation workers in J city face through investigation of basic living conditions, children education conditions, medical and health conditions, economic income conditions, social communication conditions, community participation conditions, social security conditions and many other aspects of migrant sanitation workers in J city, and find out the related factors influencing the social support of migrant sanitation workers. Put forward some specialized countermeasures and suggestions to help and improve urban migrant sanitation worker’s living status under the perspective of social support by collating and analyzing the existing problems.Through the investigation and study, it can be seen that the current living conditions and social support condition of migrant sanitation workers in J city is not optimistic. They face serious problems and difficulties in their work and lives. Their work has long hours and great labor intensity, low wages and imperfect social security system. The urban and rural dual household registration system still exists. To a certain extent, it affects the migrant sanitation workers’ children’s enter school. On the other hand, there are some problems in migrant sanitation workers’ living conditions, cultural entertainment and community participation conditions. In addition, the urban resident has discrimination and prejudice to the migrant sanitation workers. The migrant sanitation workers need effective social support to help them get rid of the bad living condition.To this end, the author takes the perspective of formal and informal support and analyzes the countermeasures and suggestions which can solve the current migrant sanitation workers’ adverse circumstance from the government, communities, social organizations, enterprises, individuals and other different levels. Put forward the feasible ideas and methods to improve migrant sanitation works’ conditions of existence and promote the quality of life of the migrant sanitation workers.
