A Review Of Research On Japanese History In The Republic Of China (1912—1949)

The research on Japanese history in the Republic of China(1912—1949)can be divided into two periods: from 1912 to 1930,under the influence of the ideological trend of “new historiography”,the research on Japanese history presented a trend of diversification with the new development and more in-depth understanding on some specific issues such as the relationship between Japanese geography and history and Japanese historical stage,and the purport,genre,choice of materials and the narrative object also changed a lot;from 1931 to 1949,With the gradually deepening national crisis,the social functions of historiography became prominent,and the historians’ spirit of patriotism and nationalism led the research of Japanese history to further development,which focuses on the history of invading China in order to show people what is shameful by means of analyzing the formation of Japanese imperialism and its outrage on China.At the same time,facing the cultural invasion of Japan,some historians also countered for the culture of Japan through studying Japan’s ancient history.In research methods,the new historians contributed to revealing research area and adopting multi-disciplinary methods,and Marxist historical materialism paid more attention to economic factors’ effect on the development of Japanese history.
