This article is based on the concept of "images" derived from Chinese traditional culture,to explore the basic cultural connotation of "Chinese oil painting" and find the connection between the traditional culture of thinking and the creation of oil painting.The study is to guide the practice of painting creation and to reflect the thought of combining theory with practice.The concept of "images" is one of the basic research problems of Chinese traditional culture in which "images abstracting from viewing" is a typical aspect of study that contains the idea of "from nature to humanization".As the result of “images abstracting from viewing”,the images named the Eight Diagrams reflect the ability to observe things but not rigidly adhere to things which is especially suitable for inheriting and drawing lessons from by oil painting activity?Although the "imaging" thinking is not equated with artistic thinking,it is the origin of the latter one.The thought of "imaging" and artistic both belong to the category of the form of thinking and both are dependent on the image of reality and life.Therefore,the study of " images abstracting from viewing " is an important reference to how to observe and show nature in artistic creation.The "images abstracting from viewing" represents a way of life and an ideological attitude of Chinese people to observe nature and live in harmony with nature.This way of thinking can also extend to the relationship between human and society.Basing on sequence of the thought,the creation of oil painting based on "images abstracting from viewing" is also an important part of the creation practice of "Chinese oil painting" and reflects the Chinese painters' thoughts.
