The fountain of art thinking in the Chinese culture sources in the mode of take in images and symbols from viewing which comparing to Plato's Theory of Imitation that centered on Idea, bring about the recognition of "Self" and "Other".To delving into the origin of the mode of images abstracting from viewing, we should take the concept of "Xiang" as the first point, pondering it among Xi Ci as well as differentiated and analyzed with related term "Xing". Through the comparing analysis between metaphysical "Xiang" and "Idea", it was found that they have many similarities, but they are distinguishing that one is current and changeable "multiple" while the other is eternal and static "One". In comparing "Vision" in "images abstracting from viewing" and in Plato's idealism we discover, Chinese tradition embodies the unification ideas of "Union of Heaven and Human Beings" but Western philosophy making the thinking of subject-object dualism as the core. By comparing and analyzing the function of "images abstracting from viewing" and "Theory of Imitation", we can find Chinese art has a long cultural tradition of valuing intrinsic romantic charm beauty, however, Western give great importance to realistic external shape. The study of "images abstracting from viewing" in Yi zhuan Xi Ci on the reference of Plato's Theory of Imitation contributes to the knowledge of spirit of the basic spirit of Chinese and Western culture.
