| The translation material of this report is excerpted from Emerging Organic Contaminants and Human Health which is a kind of chemical English.EST(English for Science and Technology)is an important and special style.Chemical English is an important branch of EST and has something in common with EST English in terms of vocabulary and syntactic structure,but it still has its own distinctive features.Therefore,in the process of translation,the translator needs to fully understand the stylistic features as well as subject contents of EST and Chemical English,master some knowledge of relevant expertise,and adopt appropriate translation principles and methods,flexibly applying them to translation practice.This report employs Skopos theory as the guiding principle.By analyzing the problems encountered in the actual translation process and then offering solutions,this report illustrates the translation process of chemical English.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter clarifies the purpose and significance of this report and briefly analyzes the content of the translation material.The second chapter mainly introduces Skopos theory in three ways,the definition of Skopos theory,the principle of Skopos theory,and the guiding significance of Skopos theory.The third chapter is an overview of the translation process,including pre-translation,translation and post-translation.The fourth chapter is devoted to case analysis,which is the core part of this report.Guided by the Skopos theory,this report analyzes translation strategies from the three aspects of vocabulary,sentence and table translation.The fifth chapter is the conclusion of this report,dwelling on the problems and deficiencies in translation practice and making suggestions to other translators.This report aims to enrich the translator’s experience in translating chemical texts,enhance translation ability,and promote the exchange of science and technology between China and other countries in the world. |
