Practice Report On The Chinese Translation Of The Legends Of The Second Founders Of Mitr Phol(Excerpts)

The Legends of the Second Founders of Mitr Phol is a translation project commissioned by Guangxi Tuolu East Asia Sugar Co.,Ltd.The book is a biographical work characterized by documentary content and literary flavor.Focusing on the Vongkusolkit family-a Thai Chinese business family,this book mainly introduces the lives and deeds of the elder brothers Kamon Vongkusolkit and Soonthorn Vongkusolkit,and the elder sister Vimol Kanjanakumnerd in the family,and the development course of Mitr Phol Group is presented.There are few translations of Thai biographical texts in China,and almost no study on the Thai-Chinese translation methods and strategies for this genre.This practice report is based on the author’s translation practice in Chapters 8 to 14 and the appendix of The Legends of the Second Founders of Mitr Phol.The ThaiChinese translation methods and strategies of biographical texts and representative cases in translation materials are analyzed under the guidance of Skopos theory.The author summarizes the following translation methods after analysis: at the lexical level,translation methods of pertinence,explanation,transliteration and transformation shall be adopted;at the syntactic level,translation methods of split,amplification,reorganization and omission shall be adopted;at the discourse level,translators methods of strengthening coherence,adding literary flavor,selecting appropriate styles shall be adopted.
