A Study On Network Buzzwords In Subtitle Translation From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the increasing number of Internet users,Chinese people are getting more access to foreign films and network buzzwords.Nowadays translated subtitles have become an important tool by which Chinese people understand and appreciate foreign programs.However,it is an undeniable fact that there exist many problems with the current translation of subtitles,especially in the field of network buzzwords.As a special kind of language variant,network buzzwords,with specific semantic features and cultural connotations,reflect the corresponding social ideology,cultural life,and public psychology.Statistics show that a quite large number of network buzzwords are mistranslated in terms of pragmatic aspects,cultural factors and linguistic field,which are likely to cause great confusion.Thus,the issue of translation of network buzzwords has already aroused wide public attention.Under such circumstances,the author attempts to explore the subtitle translation of buzzwords,aiming at analyzing the main problems and putting forward translation strategies.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the research is conducted by the means of case study,text analysis,and comparative analysis.The paper summarizes by offering some suggestions for translation of buzzwords.Also,some effective measures and techniques are suggested from different perspectives.The paper is composed of five parts.The first part is the introduction of the paper.The second deals with the literature review,in which overview of network buzzwords and previous studies on subtitle translation are introduced.The third part is the theoretical framework.The fourth part dwells on the problems with the translations of buzzwords from pragmatic,cultural,and linguistic perspective.The fifth part involves the suggested translation strategies.The last part is the conclusion.
