An Experimental Report On NetCATS A Self-Built Word Cloud Translation System From Perspective Of Technological Turn In Translation Studies

With the development of computer technology,especially the rapid development of network technology and big data technology,there is a technological turn a new tendency in translation studies.The purpose of human translation and CAT(Computer-aided Translation)/MT(Machine Translation)is to translate from one language to another language,but in a different way,and both of them fall into the category of translation studies.At present,most of MTI's graduation theses belong to translation practices to verify the translation theories that have been summarized in human translation.There are also some other graduation papers based on today's CAT/MT software or systems to study translation,but they are limited by the functions of the software or systems.When a function is needed for a research and it has not provided by the software or systems,the researcher can do nothing at all.The translation results of the software or systems can only be evaluated according to translation experiences of the researchers.The questions,such as how to realize translation and how to improve translation quality of the software or systems are usually not invloved.Translation studies driven by translation technology can develop CAT/MT software or systems for self-designated research subject or study how to implement translation of the software or systems.The experimental report is a type of design experiment and its purpose is to study how to implement word translation of NetCATS which is a self-built word cloud translation system.There are four chapters in the thesis.Chapter one is the experimental description for the background,and contents of the study.Chapter two is the experimental process which is the principal chapter in the thesis including the previous preparation and experimental procedures to reveal how to implement word translation of NetCATS.Chapter three is experimental result by showing NetCATS application after starting the system.And chapter four is conclusion for the significance of this experiment,the inadequacies of the experiment,and the prospect of the future study.From the experiment,it is observed that the translation process of current CAT/MT isbased on computer technology to transmit,store,and calculate corpus,so this paper assumes that computer technology,especially emerging big data technology,should be made full exploration for translation studies in the era of technological turn of translation studies.
