| This translation report is based on the translator’s Chinese translation of two representative chapters of The Complete Cloud Computing Manual.Nowadays, information technology has been changing rapidly and the demand of social development for information services has continued to spike.Cloud computing is the product of the development of computer science and Internet technology, and is currently in a rapid development stage. In order to stay informed of the development and technical achievements of cloud computing technology in foreign countries, translation is indispensable. However, translation research in this field is rarely dealt with in academic circles. After having a good grasp of the text type, linguistic features and target readers of the original text, the translator chooses Nida’s functional equivalence theory as a guidance for translation practice. This report will explore the translation of the EST texts at lexical, syntactic and discourse levels, and propose applicable translation methods and techniques,so as to provide reference for future research on the translation of EST texts in the field of cloud computing. This report is divided into five parts: The first chapter is an introduction to the translation project, including the requirements of the translation task, the analysis of the source text and the significance of the project. The second chapter describes the whole translation process, namely pre-translation,in-progress translation and post-translation.The third chapter introduces the previous translation studies on equivalence theory and expounds the feasibility of Nida’s functional equivalence theory in the translation of technical texts in the field of cloud computing. The fourth chapter involves case studies from the perspectives of lexical and semantic equivalence, syntactic equivalence and textual equivalence and examines the difficulties and their solutions in the translation process. Finally, the translator makes a summary of the gains and the limitations of the translation practice in this report. |
