The original text of this translation project is Chapter 11 excerpted from Sandtray: Playing to Heal,Recover, and Grow, written by American psychotherapist Roxanne Rae and published in 2013.The book is a best seller in psychology which introduces the application and different aspects of Sandtray therapy.Chapter 11 mainly covers the treatment of Sandtray therapy with traumatized children and records the improvement they made after the treatment.According to Nida’s theory of dynamic equivalence, the translator reproduces the information in the source text in closest target language and strives to achieve the goal of faithfulness and smoothness. The translator encounters difficulties both at the lexical level and the syntactic level in translation. In order to resolve the difficulties, multiple translation techniques are adopted, namely, specification, conversion, addition, division, combination, voice changing and inversion. In the last part, the translator conducts a conclusion about lessons learned from the project and problems to be resolved in the future. This translation project mainly focuses on the treatment of traumatic children and also provides a practical reference for Chinese Sandtray therapy.
