The original text of this translation project is selected form Sandtray:Playing to Heal, Recover and Grow written by the psychotherapist Roxanne Rae, published in 2013. This book introduces Sandtray therapy by real stories. Sandtray therapy is a popular psychological therapy in the world, which refers to one kind of psychotherapies that uses sand, water, and miniatures to achieve its therapeutic effect. Translating it into Chinese can not only provide experience and reference for Chinese Sandtray therapy, but also has important significance for the research of psychology and Sandtray in China now. This translation project is divided into two parts. The first part is the E-C translation of Chapter One "Sand play beginnings" about the principle and origin of Sandtray therapy and Chapter Ten "Children’s active Sandtrays" about the therapy that is specially dedicated to young children and adolescents which are selected from Sandtray:Playing to Heal, Recover and Grow, with the total words of 11,300.In the process of translation, the translator encountered many problems, which can be categorized into lexical and syntactic problems. Guided by the American linguist Eugene A. Nida’s concept of translation equivalence, including the formal equivalence and the dynamic equivalence, some strategies are adopted to deal with these problems. According to these problems and strategies, the translator wrote the critical commentary-the second part of this project. The critical commentary mainly discusses the problems of professional vocabulary, polysemic words and conversion of words at the lexical level, and the long difficult sentence at the syntactic level in such a text of English for Science and Technology. Besides, this part concentrates on the use of some translating strategies such as following the original syntactic order, turning phrases into clauses, reinventing sentence structure and voice change in the process of translation, it is hoped that the project will be helpful for those who translate a text of the same genre in the future.
