A Report On The Translation Of Comparative Mythology In China-Reflections And Explorations(Chapter 5)

The source text of this translation report is drawn from Chapter 5(the first section to fourth sections)of Comparative Mythology in China——Reflections and Explorations(?????????——??????).It coauthored by Ye Shuxian and Tan Jia,summarizes the development of Chinese and western comparative mythology and their relationship,so the authors discuss the paradigm innovation of Chinese comparative mythology based on seven international leading theories.According to Newmark's classification of texts,its main part belongs to informative text.During translating,the translator aims at breaking the language form limits presented by the source text.By that,the translator follows the method that target readers use to express their ideas,hoping to present a readable,authentic and fluent translation and demonstrate the information that the source text involves.This translation report consists of 5 chapters.The first chapter serves as an overall description of the translation project,including its background and significance.The second chapter provides an introduction to the authors and the main content of the source text,together with its textual analysis.In the third chapter,Newmark's communicative translation theory and its actual applications in this project are introduced.The fourth chapter analyzes translation difficulties about extroposition word structure in this project,which are addressed through four methods in line with communicative translation theory.The last chapter is the conclusion about the enlightenments and problems to be solved.
