Humor,as a kind of creative language form,is processed by art and widely applied in our daily life. The study of humor can be traced back to the 4th century BC and since then many linguists have conducted researches from different perspectives. However, according to the literature collected by the author, few scholars studied humor from the perspective of dialogic syntax and none of them studied the classical British sitcom The IT Crowd from this perspective.According to the above two reasons, this paper collected 652 resonant chunks from The IT Crowd as a closed corpus.A new model, the BESR model?B is short for blending theory,E is short for engagement,S is short for selection and R is short for resonance?which is based on blending theory and cognitive linguistics to analyse humor raised by resonance. The quantitative and qualitative research methods are used in this study.Major findings of the research are as follows:first and foremost, the conversation participants of The IT Crowd use verbal resonance to achieve weird atmosphere that can produce humorous effects. In addition, the weird atmosphere is raised and enforced by resonance chunks. What's more,a resonant chunk is composed of resonant units in one event.Last but not least, the resonant chunks have mutual influence and connection with others and form an independent system. This article is composed of five parts. The first chapter introduces the research background, basic principles, data collection, research methods and the arrangement of article structure. The second chapter mainly introduces the previous researches on humor and their shortcomings. The third chapter mainly introduces the theoretical framework of this paper, the BESR model, including its construction mode and working mechanism. The fourth chapter is the corpus analysis of the article,in which652 pieces of resonances have been extracted from British sitcom the IT Crowd to explain how the BESR model plays its role in the interpretation of dialogue and humorous speech. The fifth part is the conclusion part, summarization and the limitation of the research,as well some suggestions for future research are given. The research value of this paper lies in:In the first place, the paper analysed the humor raised by resonance from the perspective of dialogic syntax and constructed a new model, the BESR model to analyse the cognitive mechanism of humor.Next, the paper has an elaborate analysis of the resonant items in the classical British sitcom The IT Crowd to have a better understanding of British humor. What's more, the paper has an exemplary significance for the creation of domestic sitcom.
