A Report On The E-C Translation Of Critical Terms For Media Study(excerpts) Under The Guidance Of Functionalist Skopos Theory

Critical Terms for Media Study is a volume of papers on media studies,which uses vivid examples to explain the concept of media.Media for spreading messages over long distances have existed for as long as people have had legs.For Marshall McLuhan,the medium is the message.People can not live without the network or other media in modern times.Media studies belong to the category of comparative literature,which is a study of the ways,methods,means and causality of the influence of different ethnic literature.The translation of foreign media study texts is of great significance to our research and development of the mature system of media science.This practice report is based on the author's E-C translation of the fifteenth,eighteenth,nineteenth chapter of Critical Terms for Media Study.Under the guidance of Functionalist Skopos theory,the methods used by the author in translating are divided into literal translation and free translation,amplification,the concretion of pronouns,conversion and diction.In the process of translation,the author makes the translation more fluent and accurate to express the meaning of the original by analyzing the structure of long and short sentences carefully,using the sentence reconstruction and expanding the content or adding the connectives.The author hopes to provide a reference for the readers who want to know the media studies by giving the translation of the text.At the same time,under the guidance of Skopos theory,this translation practice is not limited by the methods of literal translation and free translation.The author expects to express more original implication by analyzing sentence patterns and analyzing the grammar of the original language in order to make the translation more logical and readable,and provide more accurate information for the readers.
