On The Cognition Sight Interpretation Model Based On Reading

Sight interpretation is a combined activity of translating and interpreting;it is neither completely equivalent to translating nor could be roughly classified into the category of interpreting.This paper focuses on Sight-reading Interpreting(abbreviated as Sight Interpreting for the sake of convenience)with speech draft unavailable before interpreting.On the basis of previous studies on cognitive activities and English reading patterns,this thesis aims to construct the Cognitive Sight Interpretation Model Based on Reading with related models combines.Reading is the first step in Sight Interpreting.Therefore,this paper focuses on interpreters' reading patterns.The Cognitive Sight Interpretation Model Based on Reading aims to reproduce the process of Sight Interpreting and the psychological process of interpreters.The main point of this Model is reading as the information input of Sight Interpreting.This paper argues that since interpreters cannot fully understand the content,type and logic of the source text,the reading pattern used in the early stage of reading is bottom-up reading pattern;after a certain understanding,the reading pattern is changed from top to bottom,combined with the theme interpreters being able to grab the main information.With the change of reading style,the degree of interpreters' utterance and freedom of expression has also improved.By combining predecessors' research and the author's own experiences,the author tries to construct a Cognitive Sight Interpretation Model Based on Reading.The main part of the Model consists of three parts,forming an iceberg structure.The characteristic of the iceberg structure is that the exposed part is often the most rough one,and the downer the a concept in this structure lies,the deeper the definition is.These three parts are "The literal meaning of interpreters get","Summarized and reasoned meaning" and "Cognitive mechanism".Each part has a different connection to the other two.The Model covers the cognitive psychology mechanism's control over the various processes of Sight Interpreting,the influences between each step and each interpreting stage,and also the importance of Sight Interpreting techniques such as addition,repetition,supplementary explanations,and sentence-driven.The Cognitive Sight Interpretation Model Based on Reading combines for the first time the interpreters' reading rules in the study of Sight Interpreting modeling.Not only that,the text also analyzes the text processing of Sight Interpreting,in order to further support the the validity of the Model.This paper is divided into seven parts.The first part and the second part introduce the research background and significance,and have carried out the literature review of the items related.The third part analyzes and compares two important models of Sight Interpreting,and quotes Lederer's evaluation criteria on cognitive models.The fourth part focuses on the two stages of Sight Interpreting and reading in Sight Interpreting.In the fifth part,the author constructs the Cognitive Sight Interpretation Model Based on Reading,and explains the key concepts and the processes of cognitive processing.In the sixth part,the author chooses a section of the English source text with translation version offered officially conducts a comparison of the versions of the sight interpreting and the translation,and verifies the validity of the Cognitive Sight Interpretation Model Based on Reading.Then the author summarized the thesis in the last part.
