As a graduate student in a school of translation and interpretation,the writer has benefited a lot in interpreting lessons,especially sight interpreting lesson.The writer hopes to summarize one sight interpreting class,including ex ante preparations,on-site interpreting and ex post facto reflections.Then,by analysing recordings of students’ exercise,the writer hopes to find the students’ dilemma and problems while they are using sight interpreting skills.After that,the writer associates the analysis with theories,so as to seek solutions to the problems.This class uses the speech by Ma Weihua at China Entrepreneur Summit.Apart from the speech materials and the recording of the teacher’s explanation,the writer also manages to get the recordings of 12 students’ exercise.While analysing the recordings,the writer uses the framework proposed by Li Changshuan in his work,Meaning and Expression:Annotated Texts in English/Chinese Interpretation,and the analysis is also supported by the Interpretive Theory of Translation,the Effort Model and Comprehension Equation by Daniel Gile.The writer aims to find out the problems in the translations,analyse the reasons that cause the problems,and to probe into things that need improving in sight interpreting classes,so as to raise suggestions for interpreting learners and interpreting education.After analysing the translations,the writer finds out,for sight interpreting class in the first school year of MTI,pre-class preparation plays a significant role in understanding the article,expression of the translation and application of sight interpreting skills,which should get the attention from both the teacher and the student.Besides,sight interpreting class could guide simultaneous interpreting class,for their skills are interconnected.By writing this thesis,the writer hopes to help the teacher perfect the class materials,and to discover problems in the class.The writer wishes to reflect on the class,in order to enlighten interpreting learners.Also,this thesis is a conclusion of the writer’s sight interpreting studies in GSTI.
