The Study Of Huang Shiling’s Art Characteristics And My Graduation Creation

Huang Shiling(11849-1908),born in Yi County,Anhui,is a ground-breaking master of seal in Late Qing Dynasty.The Seal Style ’Yishan Genre’ which he created has a far-reaching influence on the realm of seal in the Republic of China.He inherited the knowledge of seal in his childhood.He was able to engrave a seal at the age of eight or nine.But his family turned declining when he was fourteen years old,he had to seek a livelihood in Nanchang.He once worked in the office of the commanding oflficer Wu Dacheng.He had lived for more than 20 years in Guangzhou,Wuchang etc.In his early years,he studied the Han seal first.In addition,he learns from Zhe Faction,Deng Shiru and Wu Rangzhi.Later,he drew nourishment from the ancient seal and from a large number of letters of gold.He endeavored to learn from Zhao Zhiqian,finally he epitomized the skills of’Seal Out of Seal’.The essay used literature investigation method and graphic comparison method to summarize the engraving works of Huang Shiling.Then it starts art staging,classifying his works in different periods&analysing their art characteristics to find the origin of Huang’ s art of seal cutting.It analyses the seal works in Huang’ s maturity stage from the aspects of writting skills.seal techniques&engraving skills.Then it summarizes the seal style in this period and these research results will be carried out into the own creative practice.
