The Processing Of Anaphora In English-chinese Translation

Anaphora is a common linguistic phenomenon existing in almost all language systems.As one of the important means of discourse coherence,the use of anaphora could avoid duplication,making the language system more concise and efficient.Due to the differences between English and Chinese language systems,the using frequency and of correspondence of anaphor in English and Chinese languages are also different.Therefore,accurate transferring and processing of anaphor from English to Chinese could make the translated text more concise,coherent and natural.Previous studies focused more on the field of linguistics,placed emphasis on anaphor in a single language,and paid less attention to the translation of anaphor between two languages.Therefore,the present paper,combining anaphor and translation,is a new contempt.Through the case study,the present paper draws a conclusion as follows:1)English and Chinese anaphor have correspondence and transformation.2)English and Chinese anaphor are affected by antecedent forms,the distance between antecedent and anaphor,different syntactic rules in English and Chinese as well as contextual factors,when these factors change,the translation of English anaphor should also be adjusted and transformed.3)There are two strategies in English-Chinese translation of anaphor:reservation and transformation,in which transformation could be divided into internal transformation with the same kind of anaphor and external transformation among different kinds of anaphor.
