Children differ from adults in cognitive development, language ability and real world knowledge,so it is important to take their needs into consideration when translating children's literature.Unlike traditional translation theories, which usually emphasize the status of the author and text, receptive aesthetics attaches great importance to readers, pointing out that readers have their own perspectives before reading and that the reading process involves the fusion of the new and the original perspectives. In this sense, the theory of receptive aesthetics can serve as a guide in translating children's literature. This paper reports how the theory of receptive aesthetics guides the translation of Chapters 2 to 6 of The World beyond the Door as a case of the translation of children's literature;it guides the translation on the language and cultural levels. On the language level, the translator focuses on child readers and features of children's literature, paying attention to the translation and usage of interjections, duplications and oral expressions. While keeping the originalI mea, ning intact, she makes some adjustments to highlight sentence rhythms and ensure that the translation is fluent, beautiful and readily acceptable to children. On the cultural level, taking into consideration the readability of the translation and the acceptability to children, the translator uses domestication as the main strategy when dealing with cultural differences in proper names and proper nouns although catering to children's existing perspective and domesticating novel terms is not the only strategy. In some cases, she also uses foreignization to broaden children's perspective without compromising the fluency of the text.
