Coping Tactics For Interpretation Difficulties Caused By Register Shift In Media Discourse

The ST material of the interpretation is chosen from CCTV program Military science and technology,which mainly popularizes military knowledge and introduces advanced military weapons and equipment,so as to encourage the spirit of youth to pay more attention to national defense and military,as well as enhance their awareness of national defense and patriotism.The interpreter chooses the two reports of 12th and 26th of November in 2016 on"The 11th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition" held in Zhuhai.In the process,the changing of roles of speakers results in rapid changes of ST register.The biggest difficulty is how to keep and convey the unique register features of different speakers.According to the ST's characteristics,the interpreter divides the interpretation difficulties caused by register shift into three groups:difficulties caused by the change of field of discourse(the change of range of discourse);Difficulties caused by the change of tenor of discourse(the change of speakers);Difficulties caused by the change of mode of discourse(the change of means of communication).Under the register theory of Halliday,the interpreter puts forward relative coping tactics:omission,addition and voice conversion for difficulties caused by the change of field of discourse;Reorganization,combination,and omission for difficulties caused by the change of tenor of discourse;Omission,adaptation and literal interpretation for difficulties caused by the change of mode of discourse.The practice proves that during the interpreting process,the interpreter should fully master the unique register features carried by the speakers' speeches.When the roles of speakers change,the register features also change and the interpretation must be adjusted accordingly.Thus,the interpreter should not only master the features of the speakers of ST,but also take the accepting ability of the audience into account.
