Railway is the lifeblood of the country's economic development.Research on the railway modernization is developing rapidly.The corresponding translation demand is also growing sharply.The paper's object is the translation of DESIGN OF SIGNALLING AND INTERLOCKING EQUIPMENTS-GENERAL BOOKLET.The core principle in the Railway EST is the accuracy of transferred information,however,the traditional scientific translation pursuits the word for word translation,and seek to retain its original state,but ignore its core,which leaving widespread translations and missing the original meaning.How to make the accurate information transferred has become the primary issue of the translator.Nida's functional equivalence theory has best illustrated the method for the EST.According to Nida,translation consists in reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source language message,which focuses on the reader's response,and represents the original information by using the closest natural equivalence,which enables the target text reader to have the same understanding and appreciation as the source-text readers.Nida's translation theory is corresponding with and has positive role in guiding EST's pursuit.Employing functional equivalence theory and finding the best method to transfer accurate source-text information can satisfy the translators' needs on pursuing accurate information.Based on the practice in Zhongshiruizhe Tech Co.Ltd.,Tianjin,and with the point cut of Nida's functional equivalence theory,the thesis first introduces the stylistic features of scientific text,translation feature,method,and precautions,second introduces Nida's functional equivalence theory and analyzes the reason why take the theory as guiding theory of EST and how to use it on my practice,then introduces how to use this theory on my EST,last summarizes the skill on EST and the difficulties and deficiencies.
