In recent years, members of various social groups have increasingly voiced their concerns about Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR).CSR calls on enterprises to abandon their traditional view of "profit matters",and emphasizes that they should attach more importance to the value of humans and their contributions to environment, consumers and society.Fortune and Forbes magazines have added "social responsibility" as one of the benchmarks for enterprise ranks.A number of texts concerning enterprise culture and management have been read by the translator throughout his internship, hence an interest in such documents have been nurtured. After conscientious search in various platforms,Development and the Private Sector:Consuming Interests(excerpt)has been chosen as the source text.At present,CSR has been a focus of researchers from China and beyond, for which the translator believes translation of texts in this field will bridge domestic and international researches on this topic, and enhance academic communications for scholars from different countries.Development and the Private Sector:Consuming Interests was co-edited by Deborah Eade, editor of the journal Development and Practice and John Sayer, director of the Hong Kong branch of OXFAM.The role of private sector in economic development is mentioned in the book. The book is an informative text, featured by common languages, partial abstract expressions and relatively large number of long-winded sentences. In accordance with the cross-linguistic communicative purpose of informative text, the translator decides to adopt "the Skopos theory" put forward by Hans Vermeer as the guiding theory for translation.Translation strategies like domestication and foreignization and translation methods like liberal translation, literal translation, splitting, amplification, conversion, reorganization and synthesis are used. The translator hopes the translation will achieve desired effect of skopos, coherence and fidelity, and provide some references for translation of such type of text.
