A Report On Medical Record Translation Under The Guidance Of Functional Equivalence Theory

The medical record is written to note the patient's pathogenesis,treatments methods and conditions,so it has great significance on medical,prevention,teaching,study and medical management.With the development of international communication,the contact among medical domain is gradually increased.More patients begin to go abroad and try different treatment methods.Traditional Chinese medicine is the pearl of the world,and the integrating therapy of TCM and Western medicine could solve many problems which can not be solved by single treatment.There are great differences between the Chinese and English medical reports on contents and the note habits,especially for the physical check results.Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital proposes to use the integrating therapy of Western medicine and TCM that has widely accepted by foreign patients.After accepting the translation tasks,the author finds that good translation not only requires solid translation skills,but also need to know some medical knowledge,and then making a brief analysis to the differences of Chinese and English medical records and their translation strategies.Because of the study on medical text translation starts late,especially for the translation strategies and skills of medical records are limited,it is important to know the language features of medical reports and using corresponding strategies in translation work.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory that was proposed by Eugene Nida,this report will make a study on translation strategies of the unique expression of TCM and the name of herbal medicine,and the terms and sentences in English based on the comparison of Chinese and English medical records features.The translation of medical records with high quality can not only help the doctor to master the patient's condition,but also help the patients to know his own condition and treat effects,and provide materials to the patients' for their further treatment.The study of the translations strategies on Chinese and English medical record can reach the purpose of communication and study on medical cases and treatment methods between the two countries,and provide experience to others.
