As the new coronavirus rages around the world, which is defined as a global epidemic disease by the World Health Organization, epidemiology is increasingly communicated globally which requires the translation of epidemiology to be more accurate. The source text of this translation report is excerpted from the book Essentials of Epidemiology in Public Health written by Ann Aschengrau and George R.Seage III.It’s hoped that the translating of the book could help popularize the knowledge of epidemiology and provide reference for domestic scholars studying epidemiology. This source text is excerpted from the first and second chapters of Essentials of Epidemiology in Public Health, which is more easy to popularized by comparing with the rest chapters and will be of great significance in research. And there are many attributive clauses in the two chapters,so this report studies the translation strategies of attributive clauses in epidemiological texts under the guidance of the functional equivalence translation theory.Meanwhile, when translating this type of text, the translator should try to keep the meaning and style consistent with the source text.It is expected to provide a reference for the translation practice of attributive clauses in similar texts. This report can be divided into five chapters.Chapter One gives an introduction to the theme of the original text, language features and the structure of the paper.Chapter Two describes the translation process, including three stages: preparation before translation,while-translation and proofreading after translation.Chapter Three is the theoretical framework, introducing the related concepts of functional equivalence translation theory and attributive clauses,as well as the domestic and foreign research status of them.Chapter Four is case analysis, exploring corresponding translation strategies with specific cases: in terms of ordinary attributive clauses, the fronting and synchronizing methods can be adopted;in terms of continuative attributive clauses, the conversion and cutting methods can be adopted;in terms of isolating attributive clauses, shifting method can be adopted;in terms of compound attributive clauses, the negation and combination method can be method;in terms of dual attributive clauses, the embedding method can be adopted;in terms of complex attributive clauses, the integrating and recasting method can be adopted.Chapter Five summarizes the findings and limitations in this translation practice.
