| The whole program consists of a simultaneous interpreting task of 80 ’s Talk Show broadcast by Dragon TV on September 22,2016 and a report on the difficulties and corresponding tactics in the simulated interpreting process.The expressions and utterances of this show are mostly colloquial and comic.The difficulties in the interpreting process lie in the effective rendition of the humorous utterances.After analyzing the discourse and relevant materials,the interpreter classifies the humorous utterances in the source text into three types,namely the utterances of situational humor,cultural humor,and linguistic humor.For situational humor,some ambiguous expressions and unique social phenomena are difficult to tackle.In cultural humor,some distinctive cultural images and expressions of potential misunderstanding make the interpreting difficult.As for linguistic humor,the main difficulties are rooted in the rhetorical devices and a generalized linguistic feature,the speakers’ exaggeration in tone.With the guidance of the skopos theory,especially its three rules,the interpreter adopts addition for unique social phenomena,distinctive cultural images and rhetorical devices,omission for expressions of potential misunderstanding,paraphrasing for ambiguous expressions and rhetorical devices,substitution for distinctive cultural images,and imitation for exaggeration in tone.Nowadays,researches on interpretation of humorous utterances are comparatively limited.This interpreting report is expected to offer some advice on interpretation of humorous utterances. |
