| The author of this report was commissioned by Zhilian Consulting Co.,Ltd.,a consulting firm located in Suzhou,Anhui Province,to translate excerpts from The End of Competitive Advantage into Chinese.The target text is intended for information purposes for the firm’s clients,which means that the target text is expected to meet basic standards such as accuracy and readability.This report presents a retrospective summary of the problems and solutions concerning the abovementioned translation project.This report comprises four chapters:Chapter One presents information about the translation project,the commissioner’s requirements,and a brief summary of the content of this report.Chapter Two discusses translation problems and solutions at the word level.Word-level problems encountered in the translation project in question fall into two categories:those regarding the translation of proper nouns and terms.The 73 proper nouns confronted in the translation project include personal names,brand and company names,article,book,and magazine titles,and other categories.As for those proper nouns with pre-established translations,the author of this report has employed the widely accepted translations.As for those proper nouns without pre-established translations,the author of this report has tried to find proper solutions for them.As to the translation of the majority of the 21 terms encountered in the translation project,the author of this report has added footnotes for the convenience of readers who may be unfamiliar with background information.Chapter Three discusses solutions to sentence-level translation problems encountered in the translation project such as splitting long sentences and rephrasing.The aim of these solutions is to ensure a comfortable and effortless reading experience.Chapter Four is a critical reflection on the experience of the author of this report as the producer of the target text appended in Appendix I. |
