The present report is based on the translation of 100 Must-Read Classic Novels.The book consists of classic novels all over the world,which include a large number of proper nouns divided into diverse categories.For the reason,translating these proper nouns accurately is a key and difficult point for the translator.Therefore,the general E-C translation methods for each category of proper nouns will be discussed in this report.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction to the translation project,which includes project background and project significance.The second chapter is the process of the translation project,including preparation before translation,translation process and proofreading after translation.The third chapter focuses on the definition of proper nouns,translation principles and translation methods of proper nouns.The fourth chapter conducts a case study,in which cases are analyzed according to five categories of people names,place names,book titles,disease names and socio-culture proper nouns,to discuss the translation strategies of each one.The last chapter is a summary of the project that the author shares experience in translating proper nouns.Through summarizing the translation methods of proper nouns and making comparatively complete tables of proper nouns,the report aims to provide accurate translations of proper nouns for readers of this book and to provide general translation methods for students whose major is in translation when they translate E-C proper nouns.
