In the 1990 s,as an important representative writer of the "Realism Shockwave",Guan Renshan created many short and medium-length novels with the purpose of exposing social dilemmas and contradictions,which caught wide attention of the literary world.In the new century,Guan Renshan turned from the creation of short and medium-length novels and devoted himself to inditing long novels.He published many long novels in succession such as Tian Gao Di Hou,Mai He and Ri Tou,et cetera.His creative theme was still the vast rural area in China while his writing style was quite different from before.This thesis intends to classify Guan Renshan's novels into Popular Literature "Legendary Series" in the 1980 s,the "new realism" series relying on "Xuelian Bay" and "Jidong Plains" in the 1990 s,and the "Long Country Novel Series" represented with the trilogy of Chinese peasants' destiny after the transformation of the new century.This thesis focuses on the transformation and limitation of Guan Renshan's creation from shorts and medium-length novels to long novels in the period of "new realism".Except for the frontier and epilogue,this thesis is divided into four parts:The introduction part mainly sorts out Guan Renshan's literary creation in about30 years and the current research situation of Guan Renshan.The research value and innovation of this thesis are demonstrated based on the introduction part.The first chapter mainly analyzes the changes of Chinese rural literature in the20 th century and transformation of the beginning of the new century in order to understand the social background of Chinese rural literature creation and the rural literary background of the creative transformation on Guan Renshan.The second chapter mainly analyzes the main characteristics of Guan Renshan's literary creation in the 1990 s.The creative features are analysed by the writer's literary creation of the spirit of realism,the portrayal of the victims and through the ambiguous attitude at the historical break period.The third chapter is based on the trilogy of Chinese peasants' destiny to analyzethe transformation of Guan Renshan's literary creation in the new century.The transformation of Guan Renshan is mainly reflected in three aspects.The first is the transcendence of realism.Guan Renshan skillfully combined the techniques in his magical realism with the mystical elements in the Chinese countryside to localize Western magical realism.Secondly,it is reflected in the portrayal of characters.The author has created many new peasant images with strong spiritual power and sense of justice.They are either entrepreneurs who have saved the countryside from the economy or rebuilders of civilization who are looking for lost spiritual homes.In short,they all have different human radiances than those in the past.Finally,difference of ambiguous narrative from the works in the 1990 s are studied by perspective of the critical spirit,the trilogy of Chinese peasants' destiny not only bravely vowed for the bottom peasants and sharply criticized the problems that occurred during the social transformation.The fourth chapter mainly expounds the unfinished breakthrough of Guan Renshan's creative transformation.This part is mainly analyzed from three aspects:the repeated use of creative resources,the bureaucratization of works' language and the simple presentation of complex reality.These three aspects have been improved from the works since the 1990 s,but they have not yet completed a gorgeous turn and they are still shortcomings that restrict the artistry of the work.The conclusion is the last part,which mainly expounds the significance of trilogy of Chinese peasants' destiny for Guan Renshan's literary creation and the value of Chinese native literature in new century.
