| The translation project report is about the author’s translation of EN 14531 Railway applications-Methods for calculation of stopping and slowing distances and immobifization braking(revised document),and the task is entrusted by Ruhlamat Automation Technologies(Suzhou)Co.,Ltd.The source text is a technical document of European Norm(EN),and the Chinese version will be used within the Ruhlamat to inform internal staffs with the newest EN information in railway applications.The client puts.forward three requirements for the translation task:appropriate language style;accurate terminologies;coherent and readable text.The translations report is composed of five chapters.The first chapter covers the introduction of the task,translation requirements and the translation process.The second chapter introduces pre-translation preparations,including text analysis,parallel texts,translation resources and theoretical foundation.The third chapter is a case study including translation difficulties and corresponding strategies/methods in terms of lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.The forth chapter discusses the post-translation process,including self-proofreading and editing,as well as reviews from others.And the last chapter is the conclusion,including the summary of the report,lessons learned and limitations of the translation task.The translation report finds that the translation on lexical,syntactic and discourse levels should be addressed on the features of technical texts.For example,the accuracy of terminology can be ensured with necessary reference from professional dictionaries,books and professionals;long and complex sentences can be handled through splitting them and reversing the sentence order,and in order to facilitate the coherence and readability,the international common formula and illustrations can be reserved.With translation strategies and principles explored in this translation report,it is hoped that this translation task can provide practical references for translation of technical documents. |
