A Translation Report On The Financial News Of The Economist

The news coverage on finance,tax and trad e,as an im portant medium for people to know the world economy,has drawn increasing attention in China and becom e the main stream in the news coverage of developed coun tries.Therefore,the translation of financial news has become an essential approach for people to have a better understanding of the world economy.W ith financial news of The Economist as the tar get,the autho r selected over ten related articles and did the English-Chinese translation practice on which this tran slation report is based.Under the guidance of Newm ark's text function theory,this report summarizes and describes the textual characteristics of the selected articles in detail and conducts case analyses from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels respectively,pointing out that the source text contains lots of technical terms,abbreviations and numbers.Besides,there are lots of long sentences and cohesive devices to achieve coherence.In the m ean while,the author conducts a translation analysis on the financial news,pointing out that the translation of financial news text should aim to convey the original m eanings of the original text accurately while focusing on the idiomaticity and fluency of the translated text,trying the best to conf orm to the gramm atical rules and expression habits of Chinese without losing the original inte ntions of the or iginal text,and finally the author reaches conclusions on the findings and limitations in the process of translation.
