Research On The Design Of Campus Public Space Way-finding System Based On Spatial Cognition

The number of colleges and universities in China keeps increasing and the scale of students at school goes from strength to strength at present,which result in the rapid development of campus construction.The newly increased,expanded and rebuilt structure of most campuses becomes increasingly complicated.Moreover,with the increase of openness of university campus,the public space on campus does not present the users like teachers and students at school but also people coming to school with increasing diversity.Hence,the “difficult way-finding” problem within the public space on campus for users from different backgrounds is obvious,so the way-finding system is necessary to help them finish the space task.However,the research on campus way-finding system design at present mostly centers on the research on visual and aesthetic level of color,model,material,identification and so on,which is far unable to meet the users' demands on behavior experience,cultural experience,emotional experience and so on within the public space on campus.Hence,the Paper emphasizes the research on public space on campus,way-finding system design and relation research between human and these three to put forward the intervention of spatial cognition theory and use it in the design of way-finding system of public space on campus,which is helpful for the designer to consider how to extract,integrate and convey the environmental information from the users' view to improve the users cognition on public environment on campus and make the right behavior decision so as to make design for way-finding system of public space on campus more provided with reasonability,systemization,humanization and experience feeling and better serve the public space on campus and its users.Based on research and study on way-finding system design during three-year graduate student life,the writer has owned deeper cognition on interdisciplinary theory and finally has been established in a specific field case to develop the research anddiscussion on way-finding system design for public space on campus on the basis of spatial cognition theory.The whole paper is divided into six chapters as follows:Chapter ? has introduced the research background,research status at home and abroad,research purpose and method and innovation point and explained the importance and necessity of the Research Project.Chapter ? has stated the basic conception on public space and public space way-finding system design and put forward the conception and function of public space way-finding system on campus.In addition,the specific analysis based on the existing problem of public space way-finding system on university campus in China has been carried out.Chapter ? has stated that the requirements for public space way-finding system design on campus has been obtained by carrying out specific research on a lot of conceptions involved in spatial cognition theory and has analyzed the meaning of spatial cognition theory on public space way-finding system design on campus.Chapter ? takes the design practice research on way-finding system of public space on campus in Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Huxi campus as the example to have analyzed the related factors on public space way-finding system design on campus and put forward the method for public space way-finding system research on campus on the basis of spatial cognition theory to have developed design flow and content of way-finding system.Chapter ? takes the design practice research on way-finding system of public space on campus in Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Huxi campus as the example to put forward general on public space way-finding system design on campus for space environment way-finding on campus,paper guide map and virtual way-finding construction and has respectively stated design principle and design considerations for system with different medium as well as how this system has been operated to reach to make the users fast generate effective spatial cognition.The research conclusion on the Project has been summarized in Chapter ?.
