ABRSM(abbreviation of Associated Board Royal School of Music)represents the Grade Exam of Royal School of Music,and it has exerted considerable influence on the grade exams for music amateurs since it arrived in China.ABRSM grade exam has flexible,diverse,standard and rigorous examination modes as well as scientific and comprehensive evaluation criteria.During the process of teaching and exam,great importance is attached to train students' comprehensive music qualities such as playing(singing)skills,music theory knowledge,and hearing ability,and thus it has helped cultivating a large number of music talents.The ABRSM grade exam is fairly rich and comprehensive in content,in which the hearing test is a compulsory module for the grade exam.It has comprehensive and strict requirements for the listening ability of examinees.There has been a set of precise scientific standards for teaching modes,exam systems and exam contents,which function to keep students being interested and improve teachers' teaching ability.Looking at the domestic musical listening exam,we will see it is still at the developmental stage,and there are many deficiencies.The author contacted the system of ABRSM grade exam during the undergraduate study and has been teaching for ABRSM grade exam for five years.During this period,the author not only participated in the teacher training program many times,but also registers for the exam to get practical experience.Therefore by comparing the exam contents and forms between the hearing test of ABRSM grade exam and domestic musical listening test and then analyzing the difference and making a summary,the author focuses on studying three modules of hearing test of ABRSM grade exam—cadence discernment from listening,sight-singing,and rhythm repeat,and introduces the advantageous part of the study results to the teaching of listening training in our country for the purpose of reforming and improving the domestic musical listening training,and this plays a more positive and important role in promoting the sustainable and healthy development of musical grade exam in our country,and upgrading the overall music appreciation attainments of domestic music learners.The paper is divided into seven parts,consisting of the introduction,five chapters,and the conclusion.The introduction section is an overview of this paper,states the reasons for and the meaning of choosing this topic,the current situation of domestic and foreign studies,and relevant research methods.Chapter One describes the system of ABRSM.It includes the historical background of ABRSM grade exam,general situation of development,teaching concepts,and the current condition of development in China.The purpose and meaning of listening test of ABRSM grade exam are also put forward.Chapter Two outlines the musical listening test system of our country,and introduces its emergence and development as well.The author analyzes the two different types of musical listening exams in our country—the sight singing and ear training test of music specialty exam(student recruitment through college entrance examination)and musical listening test of musical level exam(for amateurs).Chapter Three compares the content and forms of listening test in China and Britain,making an analysis mainly from two aspects—written test and oral test.In Chapter Four,by focusing on the three testing points of ABRSM hearing test:sight-singing,cadence discernment from listening,and rhythm repeat,the author conducts a study to summarize the part that can be learned from and applied in the musical listening exam in our country.The fourth section of the chapter is the part where the conclusion is given.In Chapter Five,the author makes suggestions of Chinese music listening education institution in the aspect of the school,teacher,parents and students,which are also a conclusion of this paper.The conclusion section is the summarization of the paper and expectations to the future.
