A Report On C-E Translation Of Patent Abstract From The Perspective Of “function Plus Loyalty”

With the enlargement of China’s opening to the world and the deepening of the foreign exchanges,the demands of C-E translation of patent abstract are increasingly prominent and become an important part in the field of legal translation in China.By searching for studies on translation of patent literature,it shows that domestic scholars’ studies mostly focus on the E-C translation of the patent description and studies on C-E translation of patent abstract are relatively scarce.In this report,the author selects the patent abstract project of "XYZ Company" as source material,makes studies and analyses from the perspective of Nord’s “function plus loyalty” on a series of problems such as mistranslation of terminologies,mistranslation in logic and the lack of cohesion at lexical,syntactical and textual levels in conjunction with specific examples.Afterwards,the author proposes some practical solutions for C-E translation of patent abstract with the aim to provide reference for the translators engaged in similar translations.Furthermore,the solutions put forward in this report may enlighten the translation practice of other parts of patent literature,such as the description of a patent.
