This report is based on a translation of medical essay Body-mass Index and All-cause Mortality: Individual-participant-data Meta-analysis of 239 Prospective Studies in Four Continents,which was published on The Lancet in 2016.In this thesis,researchers tracked down 3.95 million adults in many countries and regions in four continents including Asia,North America,Oceania and Europe to find out whether obesity is connected to high death risk.With the guidance of Nida’s Function Equivalence,this report starts with the introduction of the project,including background information,characteristics of medical paper,translator’s preparation and other specific tasks.It deals with the translation strategies used during the translation process,and finds that the difficulties and problems mainly come from lexical and syntactic aspects.In the procedure of translation,the translator follows standard of medical articles’ translation as “objective,concise and standardized”,and the readability of the articles has also been improved under the premise of ensuring the accuracy.It is hoped that the report will provide a reference for the relevant translation.The only way the translator to increase the readability for readers is to constantly improve his professional level,broaden his horizon and make those practical experience and gains into his own use.Only in that way can the translator make the medical translation more loyal and fluent. |
